VIDEO: NYU Films

Shot: In Studio
On: MiniDV

This class involves creating three, short scenes inside of a professional 3-Camera studio at NYU. We work in a crews of 12 people, because that’s how many people it takes to operate a studio like this. (For more about how this class works, check out these posts.) For the first two projects, the script is given to us and we get one hour to shoot the scene and direct the 13-16 other people on set. On top of that, it’s cut live, which means NO EDITING AFTER! All of it is done on the spot, live (like SNL). For the final project, we get to write something of our own, and get two-hours in the studio to produce it.

Shot: On Location
On: 16mm B&W Film

This was my first film class at NYU, in which we worked in groups of 4 and shot 20 films in 5 weeks (5 films per person). These are the 5 films that I directed, all shot on 16mm black and white film (yes, FILM) and edited by hand on the Steenbeck (no computer!). Each film has a specific “emphasis” that needed to be in the film in some way, otherwise, we were free to do whatever we wanted. Also, props to the other members of my crew: Theresa Bateman, Tara Lengyel, and Anthony Crespo.

The last one is my favorite. If you hadn’t told me while you were making this how you actually wanted it to come out, I’d say it was perfect, just ’cause… it was awesome. (A+ on the choice of Radin yes yes yes)

Anywho, all five of these are amazing. They look like those 60’s French films we watched in History of Motion Pictures, really good stuff. (But I feel kinda dumb it took me a whole five minutes to figure out the ending for the 3rd one).

    Make more on-film movies!!!

That is Murdoch right? It sounds like him.

Yes, that is Murdoch. I knew I heard that song before somewhere, turns out it’s right here in my handy iTunes library.

What I’m trying to say is, keep on keepin’ on, these are wonderful.
    (Especially the last one.)

The last one is definitely my favorite as well. I also read that you said it wasn’t the wrong day on “Late”, so I looked. I had a feeling it was really p.m. You’re on your way, Deanikus! Oh, and I wrote a letter to you! Yesterday, actually, but I haven’t sent it yet. I shall be placing it in the mailbox shortly. :)
