YouTube Acoustic Covers

March 25th, 2010

I’ve never been that into YouTube. Sure, I appreciate a good fight or fail now and then, but I’m not the kind of person who can sit around on YouTube all day.

If there is one thing I love about YouTube, however, it’s the acoustic covers of songs that regular people from all around the country sing better than the actual songs themselves.

Everything from simple, singing a popular song into a webcam like this:

to rewritten songs with some serious production value like this:

Those are just two that I came across yesterday, but if you ever see an awesome YouTube cover, send it to me, or post it in the comments!

The first video is by 20-year-old Alyssa Bernal from San Antonio, Texas. Her channel is youtube.com/hchsknights08, has over 250,000 subscribers and seriously posts some of the best webcam covers I’ve seen on YouTube. She even has her first album coming out thanks to her YouTube success sometime this year (I think?).

The second is by 17-year-old Tiffany Alvord from California. Her channel is youtube.com/TiffanyAlvord but this video was actually shot here in New York in collaboration with Kurt Schneider for his channel, youtube.com/KurtHugoSchneider. T-Sling actually showed me Kurt’s channel and he posts professionally produced videos of everything from song covers, to musicals, to medleys like this one with his friends at Yale University.

I don’t actually know these people like I’m pretending to right now, but their music is amazing.
Granted the attractiveness of these girls might be swaying my opinion slightly, but a combined 380,000 subscribers plus another 125,000 for Kurt doesn’t lie ;)

SHARE YO MUSIC (Vol. 2) – John Mayer/Who Says

March 15th, 2010

Last month I started a new recurring blog post called “SHARE YO MUSIC.” Just like the title, the first post was a pretty ghetto song (Ridin’ Solo by Jason Derulo), but for vol. 2, I’m switching it up entirely. Who Says by John Mayer isn’t really a new song, but I don’t really keep up with John Mayer so it’s new to me. If you haven’t heard it, listen to (/watch) it below:

Good right?

If you’re new to deandagati.com or don’t remember what Share Yo Music is all about, here’s a refresher. Every once in a while I’ll post a particularly awesome song to my blog, then in the comments, you guys can post particularly awesome songs that you’re listening to right now.

If you disapprove of this song and/or John Mayer, post something better! Any genre, any artist, any song. Feel free to use a fake name if you don’t want the world to know about your Justin Bieber obsession.

SHARE YO MUSIC (Vol. 1)

February 5th, 2010

I don’t think I have quite enough readers for this to work well yet, but I’m going to give it a try anyway. I’m starting this new recurring blog post (like awesome people) called “SHARE YO MUSIC.” Each volume, I’ll post a song that I find particular good for you to listen to and download, then in the comments you all can post a good song that you’re listening to right now. Any song, by any artist, in any genre works!

The first song I want to do is…
RIDIN’ SOLO by JASON DERULO

I actually first heard this song the other night when somebody posted it on somebody else’s Facebook wall at like 2 in the morning. Lurk that I am, I listened to it, and have listened to it about 15 times since then. I really like Jason Derulo.

If you disapprove of this song and/or Jason Derulo, post something better! Feel free to post using a fake name if you don’t want the world to know about your Miley Cyrus obsession.

United State of Pop 2009

January 5th, 2010

This has been all over Facebook lately so you’ve probably already seen it, but I think that it’s so great that I wanted to post it here too.

There’s this guy, DJ Earworm (interesting name…), who took the top 25 Billboard songs in the US of 2009 and combined them into one, incredible four and a half minute song. It’s beyond awesome, so if you haven’t seen it yet, check it out below:

Am I crazy…

October 24th, 2009

…or is this song really good?

It’s weird, but really catchy.
Got it from the free iTunes sampler on Facebook ;)

…It’s also 1 oclock in the morning. That could have something to do with it.
UPDATE. Yes. It did.

COLDPLAY IN FLOR-I-DA

May 16th, 2009

I love the way Chris Martin says the word “Florida.” I mean, yeah, the word as an “i” in it, but everyone just says FLOR-DA. Noooot Chris Martin! He stresses that “i” and puts on one hell of a show in West Palm Beach, FLOR-I-DA. Check out this clip recorded from my phone:

SO AMAZING!

David, Jenny and I (plus other etceteras) sat pretty far away as you can see in that picture, but it was totally worth it. We can’t all be like Valeria and chase Chris Martin around the entire place until security stops you ;)

I’m heading back to NYC tomorrow.
As excited as I am to start film school on Monday, I could definitely go for a few more weeks of FLOR-I-DA.

Have fun at prom tomorrow everyone! I’m sad that I’m missing the afterparties.

Brooklyn, we go hard.

April 18th, 2009

Theme song for this post:

I’ve always had this idea of Brooklyn of being like run down, ghetto, and dangerous. But even though it’s only 3 stops on the L train away from my dorm, I’ve never actually been there! That is… until today, when my Writing class took a field trip there to look at some art galleries. When I first came out of the subway, some like tricked out car was speeding by blasting Hot97 (the Power96 of New York) and I was just like… wow… I’m going to die here.

Turns out, Brooklyn is insanely awesome. All of the buildings look old and rundown (very traditional NYC) like in the pic above and there’s really nothing more than 4 or 5 stories, but the people and the stores and stuff are so cool. It has a very different feel than Manhattan… a lot less people on the street, and hardly any chain stores. I must have passed like three vinyl record stores (David you would have loved it). It’s too bad that all of the local places are closing because of the economy.
