FACEBOOK PROM BATTLE

April 19th, 2010

It’s so on.

If you’ve been on Facebook lately (which obviously you have if you’re here) you know that there’s a battle going on right now… for Cooper City High Prom King & Queen 2010. (Full disclosure, I’ve been asked to make a post about this.)

So we’ve got two groups/fan pages going down here:

Anthony and Daniella for PROM King & Queen!

and

TAYLOR SLINGERLAND & ELIA MAGARI FOR PROM KING & QUEEN (which one’s the queen?)

My vote goes to Sling & Elia for the title of the group alone.

Protesting SB6 (and everything else)…

April 12th, 2010

In light of todays walkout/fire alarm chaos at Cooper City High to protest SB6, I’ve realized how often CCHS gets involved in school-wide protests/pointless mayhem … and I love it.

Let’s look back shall we?

Freshman year, in 2005, we had three white powder scares causing lockdowns and a police/biohazard team response.

Sophomore year, in 2006, all conga lines were banned from CCHS after the excessive and hilarious A Lunch conga.

Junior year, in 2007, the Senior class president was arrested and expelled for changing grades.

Senior year, in 2008, we had the ID Scandal that sent half the school to Saturday School for switching ID pictures.

What a place.
Miss you Cooper <3
Post other things that have happened!

PS. There is a pink Cadillac parked outside of the building.

PPS. Seriously, here is the Facebook page for stopping SB6.

Spring Break Oh Ten (?)

March 23rd, 2010

Spring Break was good.

I didn’t do anything amazing.

I didn’t break out the beer bong at the beach like the Miami Herald thinks I should have.

I hung around Florida with friends, slept, and got to wear t-shirts for the first time in months.

Spring Break was good.

What did you do for Spring Break?

Cows roaming the streets of Cooper City and my video footage on 7 News!

March 17th, 2010

That is a cow. Right before he trampled me and broke my camera.

Okay, no. (It looks like he’s going to though doesn’t it?)

I took that picture this morning in my neighbor’s front yard, when these four random cows came strolling down the street. I’m still not sure how they got out or where they came from, but when I filmed them and sent the video to channel 7, they aired it! (Must have been a slow news day…)

Here’s the vid. Weird stuff…

Florida, friends & cameras.

March 16th, 2010

Whenever I check out my friends’ blogs, all I see are these amazing galleries of professional photos that make me want to sell my car to buy a DSLR, change my major and dedicate my life to photography (1, 2, 3).

While no major life chances like that will be happening to me anytime soon, I was able to go on a photo shoot over the weekend with deandagati.com “awesome people” Taylor & Maxie and see the pros at work. They also introduced me to Elia who is yet another amazing Cooper photographer who has her own blog here, and I’m happy to finally have met her (Taylor talks about you a lot, Elia).

The pictures included in this post are all from my iPhone (since I don’t own a still camera of any kind), but hopefully the legit pictures from their cameras will make their way to Facebook soon. Click the thumbnails below for full size…

A Travel Nightmare

March 12th, 2010

It’s 7pm right now. Yesterday at this time I should have been taking off from JFK International Airport on jetBlue flight 47 to Fort Lauderdale. Long story short, I landed in the 954 at 1:30AM.

Let’s start from the beginning.

I left my form for the airport at 4, got there at 5, only to find out that my flight had been delayed from 7 to 8. Not such a big deal since jetBlue has the COOLEST terminal at JFK (as I’ve mentioned in certain videos from last year). So I check in, go through security, and find my gate.

Now the flights been delayed till 8:45.

Now 9.

Now 9:30.

They stopped updating it after that. But we didn’t take off until 10:30. I should have been IN MY HOUSE by then.

At around 12:30, we were almost here, when the pilot comes on the intercom and says we are going to take a detour over The Bahamas (pictured above from the GPS channel on board) to avoid some turbulence and we should be on the ground at about 20 after the hour.

SO LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT: We are going 50 minutes out of the way, to avoid a couple bumps? Which, by the way, was completely ineffective since it was an extremely turbulent 50 minutes.

We finally landed at 1:30.

The best words in the English language: “jetBlue would like to be the first to welcome you to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.”

Anyway, now that that’s over with, I’m here in the coop for 9 days. Party.

Facebook Fan Page

January 9th, 2010

I made deandagati.com a fan page on Facebook. While that’s obviously insanely awesome (slash pathetic) I just wanted to say what’s up to anyone who has never been here before.

Here’s what you can find on this website…

The part that you’re reading right now is a pretty standard blog. All of my recent posts are about Cooper City related things since that’s where I’ve been chillin this Winter Break, but normally you’ll find posts here about New York and NYU. (Click some of the tags like “nyc” on the right hand column to see what I mean.)

I also try to include at least one picture with every post, so if you don’t like reading, feel free to just scroll down and look at the pretty pics. (And click that Facebook-esqe “I like this” button!)

If you want to see videos, click on the links right under that huge ass logo (shut up maxie/alex/taylor) with my name on it at the top of the page. Click on CTV to watch old segments and episodes from my days at CCHS, click on NYU to see what I’ve been working on in New York, or click on ORIGINALS to watch other stuff like the Trip to Florida videos that aren’t for school.

Here’s the fan page link:

A day at Cooper City High…

January 8th, 2010

A lot of people ask me why I go back to CCHS so much. I graduated the year before last, I’m no longer a part of CTV, and I don’t even technically live in the state of Florida anymore. But I don’t care what people say because if I can show up at 9, have absolutely no work required of me, take pictures and learn the ukulele in CTV, go to both lunches, have story time in yearbook, advertise for deandagati.com, and watch CTV at the end of the day all in a place where I get to see people that I don’t get to see for the majority of the year, then I think I’m gunna do it.

CCHS is fun. And I’ll be back ;)

Hi, let’s talk.

January 7th, 2010

I’ve had this blog for a good ten or eleven months now, and over the past year of writing posts, I’ve always tried to write about things that are genuinely good, things that might interest you, or things that I’m just excited about. I never wanted this to be one of those MySpace, I hate everything and everybody hates me and the world sucks kind of blogs.

But for once, I actually want to talk about something serious.

No, this blog has no pictures, no bold words, nothing hidden in links or emphasized with italics. It’s just what’s been going on lately, and it’s really not all that great.

I’ve learned a lot this week.

One thing I’ve learned is how truly fortunate I am to have friends in my life. I have a lot of friends. And while it may be slightly disappointing that the majority of them are here in Florida and not up in New York where I spend eight months out of the year, I really respect and care for each friend that I make. No matter if you’re in college, you’re in high school, you know me through a friend, you saw something about me online, or anything else, I’m willing to be your friend.

Everyone thinks of friendship in different ways, but I think that a pretty universally accepted idea of friendship is a mutual interest and respect between two people. That’s why when a friend of mine tells me they want to commit suicide, I can’t just let that slide and pretend like it didn’t happen.

This week, I’ve gotten myself involved in some good ol’ Cooper City drama, which over the many years I’ve spent here, I’ve done a good job of staying out of. I lost some friends, and made some new ones, but most importantly, I made an enemy. With emotions running high and the anger building, this newfound enemy began threatening suicide.

Let me tell you this, and this goes for everyone. I don’t care how mad I am at you. I don’t care what you’ve done, what I’ve done, what she said about you or what I said about her. In the long run, it doesn’t matter. Let’s talk about it. Let’s figure it out. Let’s get through this together. I may be mad, but I still love you. Corny and cliche as it sounds, if you’re my friend, I love you.

Turns out in my situation this week, everyone’s okay, and we can all start moving on with our lives. But as I reach the end of my teenage years and get closer and closer to adulthood, I’ve learned through this experience and others that everything will always be okay. We can always work it out, and we can always laugh about it later.
