Hipstamatic

April 13th, 2010

NYU was named the 4th most hipster school in the country by The Huffington Post this week, so to celebrate (sarcasm) I want to share with you my new favorite iPhone app: Hipstamatic (Hipstamatic).

The picture above and my new profile picture on Facebook are both products of Hipstamatic. It’s a sweet app that let’s you take “old looking” pictures. The coolest part about it though isn’t the pictures…. actually, it is the pictures. But the second coolest part is the interface. It’s not select from a list of effects and then snap a picture regularly. You pick your film, lense, and flash right on a legit old school camera. I don’t even know how to explain it. Just go download it and take a journey to the 1970’s or 80’s or 60’s or whatever pre-Dean D’Agati time period that cameras actually did this.

(It costs 2 bucks, so if you know of something that’s cooler & free, post in the comments!)

First day of class. Last day of trusting my iPhone to wake me up.

January 19th, 2010

I’m the kind of person where if I wake up late, or something is causing me to be late to class, I might as well take my time and be REALLY late to class. I’m already late right? But this morning, the first day of second semester and the first day of my new classes was really not a good time to use my “really late” theory of living.

I had class at 9:30 AM. Being the first day day and all, I set my iPhone alarm for 8 just to be safe. It went off as expected, so I hit snooze, as expected. It came back 9 minutes later to which I hit snooze again. But this time, it never came back.

I don’t know if I accidentally shut it off or what (I’ve been using it as my alarm clock since high school) but the next thing I know, it’s 9:10, I’m still in bed, and I live 20 blocks (about a 20 minute walk) from the building I need to be at.

I jumped out of bed, brushed my teeth, did the morning routine stuff in about 10 minutes and left the room at 9:20. Long story short: I got to class 2 minutes early! There happened to be an available cab right outside which I hopped in, paid the driver way too much, and made it to Tisch with two minutes to spare.

Tomorrow class starts at 11… so hopefully day 2 will go a little smoother.

My two new favorite iPhone procrastination apps.

January 16th, 2010

Like most iPhone owners, I love my phone. I particularly love how much time I can kill on it when I should be doing something more productive (like college).

My new favorite two apps are Knocking Live Video and Words With Friends.

Knocking (Knocking? Live Video) lets you send video from your iPhone video camera to somebody else’s phone. It’s simple and has room for improvement (no sound and it shares your texts with other people for some reason, lol), but it’s a lot of fun.

Words With Friends (Words With Friends Free) is basically Scrabble but it lets you play with other people with iPhones. You can play as many games as you want at once so it’s really addicting.

Both apps are free, so get them and add me! My username for both is: deandagati

Vint Green: Pictures from the 70s & my last post of 2009!

December 31st, 2009

Yesterday, David showed me this iPhone app called Vint Green that let’s you take pictures that look like they were taken in the 70’s. There are about 72 billion photo related apps for the iPhone and none of them are really that cool, but this one is different: It’s really freakin cool.

Here are some pictures I took at the Flamingo Plaza:

SOLD! …for real this time!

July 14th, 2009

Unlike last time, the winning bidder of my iPhone’s second auction on eBay actually PAID ME. Wanna know why? Because it wasn’t some hoe from California that I needed to send Alyssa to take care of for me. This time it was some lady in Miami! So close to here! Her zip code is only one digit different than mine, haha. She reminds me a lot of Pichardo actually because in my couple of e-mail exchanges with her, she didn’t make any sense and clearly does not speak English very well… but she paid me! And that’s all that matters. I thought about just dropping off the phone at her house and saving on the shipping cost… but how do I know she’s not like a murderer or something?! I mean I can’t exactly protect myself… ;)

PS. I wonder if she likes “I’m In Miami, Bitch”???

That hoe from California isn’t paying.

July 11th, 2009

Hi
I am sorry to say this, my amount is got struck with some other deal , hence I couldn’t able to make payment to you . You can please cancel the iPhone bid for me.

My sincere appologies for you . Extremly sorry .

Thank you
Hema

Seriously? “My account is got struck” Who talks like that!? Hoes from California—that’s who. So Alyssa is on her way there to take care of business for me while I’m here in the Coop relisting my phone on eBay and watching the Yankees on FOX. This was so much easier last year. That guy from the Netherlands was so nice! At least the Yankees are on though… they never show Yankees games down here without that million dollar MLB package from Comcast.

PS. If you have no idea wtf I’m talking about, read the post underneath this one.

SOLD! …but not so much.

July 9th, 2009

winningbid

As my avid readers know (all both of you), I put my old iPhone 3G up for sale on eBay last week and today the auction ended for the price of $360! I didn’t do quite as well as last year ($415), but $360 is still $60 more than I paid for my new phone (profit, yo). HOWEVER, this dude from California that bought it, he still hasn’t paid or been in touch with me. If he thinks I’m sending this phone to him without receiving his payment then he’s got another thing coming. (I’m gunna send Alyssa Verola after him, and seriously, she’s vicious.)

If he doesn’t pay by Saturday I’m going to have to relist the phone on eBay and start all over. Damn those Californians… or maybe not. I’ll let you know.

iPhone 3GS!

July 2nd, 2009

Photo 65

When the iPhone 3G came out last summer, I decided to unlock my old iPhone and sell it on eBay so that I could buy the new one. If anyone remembers this story, it worked out incredibly well since it sold for $415 to some dude in the Netherlands and my new iPhone 3G only cost $299! Well, when the new iPhone 3GS came out a few weeks ago, I decided that it would be best to do it all again …but this time, it’s a little bit more complicated.

The new iPhone costs $299 still, but it is only $299 to new customers or AT&T customers who have had their phone for 18 months or more. I’m neither of those… so for me, the new iPhone costs $599! That’s ridiculous… and there’s no way I could make up the difference on eBay… LUCKILY, my grandpa is upgrade eligible and is never going to upgrade his POS Nokia ever again… so I went into an AT&T store in New York to try to get my new phone using HIS upgrade. OF COURSE they were sold out (even though it was the day after it came out…). They told me that I could pre-order one, but that can take up to 14 days to arrive and I was only in New York for 7 more days. I couldn’t order it online because I couldn’t use my grandpa’s upgrade that way. The worst part was that all of the Apple stores had hundreds and hundreds in stock, just sitting there, but again, I couldn’t use my grandpa’s upgrade anywhere but at an AT&T store… and there were no AT&T stores in New York City with any iPhones in stock. Trust me — I checked…

NYC AT&T Stores

I was out of options… and just had to wait until I came home. So, the other day, I went into AT&T in Pembroke Lakes Mall. Of course they were sold out of iPhones, but I was able to pre-order one, and even though they told me it would take 7-14 days, it had arrived in 3!

Now I’ve got my new iPhone 3GS… and while it’s not THAT different from the old one, it can now record videos, which to me is a pretty important feature! (Any guesses why?) Plus it’s like 984543x faster and has double the space for music & shizz. So cool. Now I just need to sell my old iPhone and try to get some big $$$ since I have legit $21 in my bank account.
