Schooooooooooooool. (Poll)

January 29th, 2010

We are now two weeks into second semester and it’s time for my “here’s what I’m taking this semester” post that rambles on for much longer than it should. LET’S DO IT! YAY

So my original plan for this semester was to take a light course load, so that I’d have time to put in lots of hours at my new job (working as a TA in the NYU TV Studios). Problem is, I haven’t started working yet (that’s next week), but the homework is already starting to pile up.

I’m not taking a production class this semester, so unfortunately, I won’t be making any new film or tv productions until September 2010.

Here’s what I’m taking:

Writing The Short Screenplay (Writing Credit): This class is pretty much exactly like the Screenplay class I took last semester. It just focuses on writing short scripts that we can produce in later advanced production classes. I’m taking the same teacher I took last semester because, like she admitted on the first day, tears us apart when we write, but gives everybody A’s.

Intro to 3D Animation (Craft Credit): I’ve only been to this class once so far, but it is already beyond me. It’s really, really cool, but we use suchhh a complex program. It’s called Autodesk Maya, it costs several thousand dollars and it’s what they used for Avatar. My teacher is good but he sometimes forgets to tell us the shortcuts that he’s using which makes his directions difficult to follow. I like him though. He’s nice and understanding of the fact that we’ve never used this program before and have no idea what the difference between “grouping” and “parenting” is. Our homework on the first class was to make a 3D solar system in which the planets and moons can all rotate independently but also revolve around the sun. Here’s mine:

Hollywood Auteurs (History & Criticism Credit): Out of all the history & crit classes, I’ve heard that this one is the best. We literally just go in once a week, watch a movie, talk about it for a little bit and ditch. No homework. No papers. Pure awesome.

New York City Social History (GenEd Credit): This class. This is the class that’s going to kill me this semester. We are required to take a certain amount of GenEd classes that don’t relate to your major, so I picked this one because it sounded somewhat interesting, which it is, it’s just so much work. We have millions of pages of reading to do every week and then we have a discussion recitation class in which we have to talk about it in small groups…. not to mention submit a summary on Blackboard online… and write papers… and take tests. Sweet.

All in all, it’s really not a lot of class, but once I start my job my free time to do homework isn’t going to be as readily available as it is now. Still, I think it’s going to be a good semester.

Let’s do a poll!

Which class sounds coolest?

Downtown Otown & Youth in Revolt

January 11th, 2010

Wasssssuppp Orlando!?

I’m hanging out here at UCF for a few days staying at David, Lee, Jack & Kim’s house (yes, HOUSE — freakin awesome) aka the Scottafouchenathanberg household. (More on that in an upcoming post.)

We went to go see Youth In Revolt tonight in downtown Orlando, and while I’ve been to UCF plenty of times, tonight was my first time ever going downtown. It has a very New York kind of feel to it just on a much smaller scale, with much less people. Still, it was really nice and this was seriously the sickest movie theater I’ve ever been in. It has, as David likes to describe, “first-class airplane seats” and a full bar… not to mention tickets are only FIVE DOLLARS. A movie costs $12.50 in NYC.

As for the movie, it was good. Not amazing or anything, but good. I’d recommend it.

Finally, I just want to say thanks to everyone who has joined the deandagati.com Facebook fan page! It’s only two days old and already has over 250 members! If this is your first time here, check the post below this one for a little more on what this site is about.

PS. David has a new blog that you should check out: http://davidn31.blogspot.com/

Discussing my hatred toward “I’m In Miami, Bitch” and my love toward “American Beauty”

July 14th, 2009

IMG_0762

I’ve been talking/complaining about this “I’m In Miami, Bitch” (or as it is known on Y100, “I’m In Miami, Trick”) song for a while now via Facebook statuses and even that last video when I went to Muvico. I think it’s becoming less of a hatred kind of thing and more of a “love to hate it” kind of thing. When it came on my iPod yesterday on shuffle (which I don’t remember ever downloading it, btw) I realized that this song has taken over my life. It’s always stuck in my head… especially the “you’re lookin kinda cute………. (84 minute pause) …….. in that poka dot bikini gurrllll” line, and even my iPod knows that. For the record, I still hate it… but I listened to some other stuff from LMFAO on iTunes today and it’s… eh… mediocre. Not horrible.

On the other hand, I just saw American Beauty for the first time with Amanda and David. (Amanda has this crazy awesome home theater which makes me jealous x50.) I really liked it a lot. We watched a scene from it in class last semester at NYU, and it’s one of those movies that I’ve been meaning to see. Most of you know that I’ve seen surprisingly few movies in my lifetime… especially for being a film student… but I’m starting to get better. Next up: Pulp Fiction or Hannah Montana The Movie? Better not let CathMiran decide that for me…

PS. You’d think I’d like a song that reps my hometown. Thr33 0H F1v

My neighborhood in The Girlfriend Experience!

June 14th, 2009

The Girlfriend Experience

Earlier today, I was gloating about how cool it is to see movies in NYC. Well, if you’ve seen the trailer for The Girlfriend Experience, then you’ve seen the very movie theater that I claimed was “like Muvico status right hurr.” The very last shot in the trailer for The Girlfriend Experience is actually of Broadway in MY neighborhood! I live one block away from Virgin on the left (which is closing). Regal Union Square is there in the middle with the scrolling banner thing and Max Brenner’s is there on the right. Check out the preview here.

Meeting Jim Gaffigan at the movies!

June 14th, 2009

IMG_0740

I love going to the movies in New York. Not only is Regal Union Square 14 one of the nicest theaters I’ve ever been in (like Muvico status right hurr) and not only do we get movies released before the rest of the country (like Away We Go!) but we also have celebrities that just go to the movies like everybody else! On Friday night, I went to go see Away We Go (which has been out for a week here but still hasn’t been released in Miami) and after the movie we actually met Jim Gaffigan! He was there… and in the movie! Plus, he’s on My Boys (that show on TBS) and does stand-up comedy around the US. Anyway, I told him that he did a great job in the movie and that I saw him on Conan last night. He said thanks, and that was it. But it was still pretty cool ;)

PS. The downside is that movies in NY cost $12.50.

PPS. Away We Go was really good, btw. You should go see it.

Two thumbs up!

A pre-screening is DEFINITELY the way to see a movie. It’s free, they give out free stuff, and there’s no previews! Yesterday I went to see “I Love You, Man” in Miami with David. It turned out to be a really great movie… very funny… and you should definitely go see it when it comes out on March 20th.

Also, here’s the website where I got the free tickets from: filmmetro.com
They have a lot of movies in the Miami area right now… not so much in New York though… which is weird (and kind of annoying).

Is it just me or have I been doing really good in the whole “going to cool stuff” category this semester?! And this one isn’t even a New York thing… it’s in Aventura!

The movie looks really good… and it has both Paul Rudd & Andy Samberg which I happened to have met recently =) Check out the preview hurrr.
